Land Rover’s redesign of the classic Discovery 1 was a huge improvement from the original. The body was made longer, giving you nearly an extra 10" leg space in the 3rd row of seats and boot space, the dash board was re designed to incorporate the new climate control, and radio, and the switches were moved around to make them more accessible, as well as having the luxury of airbags and heated windscreens.
I have owned this vehicle since December 09 - so only a few months and I love it. It’s practical, comfortable, and you get far more than the original 27mpg after the remap as well as a significant difference in power and acceleration. I would estimate I'm getting 32-34 mpg at the moment.
This vehicle was put to the test when we had the heavy snow fall, living in the home counties we were affected more than others, and after coming across a long tailback due to "normal" cars not being able to get up a steep incline, I turned round and went through a valley road with an even steeper incline with no issues at all, the traction control kicked in a few times, and the abs was excellent in the snow, I have had no issues with this vehicle yet and I look forward to driving this vehicle for a lot longer.
If you’re looking for a practical family car, for towing, 7 seats, or if you want to go greenlaning and can only afford one vehicle then the discovery 2 would be top of my list to buy. This vehicle is used regularly off-road, driving trailers across the fields of scout camp sites and towing mobile equipment about and it always performs superbly, no moans, groans or questions asked.
Land rover done well with this one.
