This vehicle is often referred to as the “daddy” of off-road vehicles, and those of you who have ever owned one or driven one off road will know exactly why that is...

Out of the box, the defender has the ability to drive off-road better than most 4x4 vehicles, the locking diffs as standard allow the vehicle to get to places no other standard 4x4 or off road vehicle would even imagine to make. The short wheelbase allows the vehicle to cross ruts, tackle steep hills and drive rough terrain without the fear of grounding out.

This vehicle is by far the most capable vehicle in the off-roading environment, Land rover have been manufacturing this vehicles basic design since the series 3 was launched in the 70's and still sell this vehicle today, making it the iconic land rover.

In 2008 the vehicle cost me £6000 - as a standard vehicle which was mint, very shiny and verly clean.
Now in 2010, the vehicle has been modified to a better off road spec, including - Mud terrain tyres, Roof rack, Extra lightbar, snorkel - for wading deep water, 2" suspension lift, spare rear wheel carrier, rock sliders on both sides, chequer plate protection all round, CB radio, Stereo system, winch and winch bumper, Roof mounted amber beacon and front amber strobes - for recovery work, and a silly amount of gadgets thrown in the back just incase.

This vehicle is now scratched, has faded paintwork and the odd dent here and there. The chassis and bulk head however are rust free (common problems) and the engine is in good condition. To trade this vehicle in against a new landy would fetch me the scrappage £2k, however i have just seen this vehicle sold, in worse condition, with a few gadgets on it for £6500. A vehicle that doesn't seem to depreciate in value at a rapid pace.

There is so much character to these vehicles, owners are sad and wave to eachother as they pass on the road, they never seem to break down, no matter how much abuse you give them or mud and water you throw at them. A truly superb vehicle, the only vehicle i would rely on to get me from A to B and home again.

If your looking for an off-road vehicle - The defender is the way to go.
