I have owned Porsches for the last 25 years and currently run a 911 GT3 from late 2001(known as a MK 1 GT3). I have owned the car for the last year having sold my 944S2 cabriolet that I owned for 16 years. Prior to that I owned a 1988 3.2 Carrera and before that a 1 year old 924.

The GT3 is in silver with 'comfort' trim which includes air con and  CD/Radio etc. It also has a factory fit half roll cage and racing seats and harnesses. It has had the power increased from 360bhp to just over 400bhp with no loss of 'driveability'. It has been upgraded with MK2 GT3 hubs which give much improved braking, MK2 wheels and MK2 front and rear spoilers and a front panel from Olaf Manthey in Germany which allows the oil coolers behind the front panel to vent the heat more easily.

The GT3 is a track orientated car that is happy on the road if you avoid speed humps and poor roads. The sports suspension is firm but the trade off is fantastic grip and an exhilarating ride.

Since I've had the car I have had fitted a new clutch and the rear suspension rebuilt. This cost me £1400.00 at a specialist. The car still needs 'balancing' which I shall sort out with a specialist in Leicester in the Spring.

I have not had the time to do any track days due to familiarisation with the car and lack of time and good weather. When the car is properly 'balanced' I will give it a go. To be honest I think the car is 'beyond' me at the moment in that its' capabilities exceed my own. 0-60mph is 4.5 secs with 100mph coming up in just 10secs.

Other running costs are insurance (arranged through Admiral on a 3 car policy) which costs just over £400 fully comp. This is cheaper than I was paying for the 944. The car is averaging about 26mpg on the road. I have done about 2000 in the car in the last year.
